It was too bad I missed the “Calabar Carnival” which is the biggest festive Carnival in all of Africa. This year was the best one yet, and the photo ops were limitless. I arrived a whole day after it ended…also, it takes a whole day’s worth of travel to get from Las Vegas to Abuja. I got to spend some time in Frankfurt, but nothing worth writing about. It was nice to finally visit the graves of my grand parents. I took a slave history tour, and visited the National museum to learn more about ancestry and check out what they had on grand pa – I just wanted to make sure Wikipedia was accurate in their descriptions. I attended a wedding ceremony, then spent new years eve/day at The Sheraton with my big baller oldest brother, the Honorable George, or as we all call him, Senior. The next day, I took a trip to visit mom in Cross River State, where I spent my days at my childhood home, revisiting the memories I’d kept close to my heart, all these years. I visited any and everyone that required visiting, which kept me busy. I brought loads of gifts, thanks to some lovely friends from the U.S. The trip kept getting better and better, and then the President announced the removal of the fuel subsidy, forcing the National Labor Congress to call a nationwide strike, in protest. Land transportation was at a stand-still, along with local and international travel, Sea Ports, Banks, etc. A.T.M machines had been drawn out completely, which meant things were just getting worse. Everyday, we watched the news, my mom and I, to see if the President realized the error with his plan, but…nothing! 5 days later, he came to an agreement with the Labor congress, and the strike was called off. I saw it as a great experience, but I wasn’t keen on missing school and work. When I got to the airport, my flight class was upgraded to Business, which made traveling back quite luxurious. Now, I want to be a business man, just so I can fly business class, every time I fly. I’m like Adam. I’ve eaten the apple, and there’s no turning back – although, that seems like an odd metaphor. I didn’t get to shoot as much as I would have loved to, but you can still enjoy some of my shots in the PROJECT section of my site, and on my facebook page. I’ve got some big goals, and school is in the way of those goals, so I’ve decided to take a break, and complete my film degree. I’m now a full time student, until December, but that doesn’t mean I won’t try to see the world, any chance I get.
Keep Nigeria in your prayers. The Boko Haram Insurgents have unleashed a series of terrorist acts against Christians, all over the nation, forcing the country into a state of mourning, fear of living life, and praising God, and it is unclear how long this will last, although I believe it will pass.
Cheers!

I lost a whole day, waiting for my luggage to arrive at Mister Bed City, the hotel I was staying in, located in Torcy, on the outskirts of Paris, which meant I needed to get an early start, the next day. Chilling 40 degree weather made it necessary to wear scarves and wool hats, gloves and enough layers to make a Club Sandwich jealous, but it was all worth it to visit Paris, during off-season. I had no idea le tour eiffel glimmered at night, at the top of the hour, but being right there and watching it shimmer was the single coolest thing my eyes have ever seen. I did get to face off with the smirking Mona Lisa, at Musee du Louvre, the largest Museum in the world, and home of Da Vinci’s most prized artwork. La Seine river was a sight to behold, but even more beautiful was Pere Lachaise, the resting place of James Morrisson, Georges Melies, the first Cine-Magician, Oscar Wilde, among many others, valiant soldiers of the French Army, & dead housewives of times past. The Notre Dame Cathedral is a sight to behold, spilling magnificence on every inch of its grandeur. Avenue Champs Elysses, beholds the famous Arc de Triomphe, and below it, hundreds of visitors, posing to include it’s glory in the background. The subway system, clean and incredibly efficient, is quite easy to navigate, as I make my way to the Musee D’Orsay, which is home to a lot of the impressionist and post-impressionist masterpieces of the 1900′s, including the works of Monet, Renoir & Van Gogh. The beautiful part is, tickets don’t sell after 5pm, but those waiting in line, are ushered in, free of charge. Paris is an expensive city but there are quite a few ways to save on a trip. Buying food from the stores and eating at a park costs less than eating at a restaurant. It only costs 6 Euros to visit The Louvre on Wednesdays & Fridays, free fashion shows at Lafayette, at most night spots, entry is free, as long as you purchase a drink, The Montparnasse Tower costs 5 Euros and is best to go at night, for the amazing view of the Eiffel Tower. For me, the phrase “comment puis-je aller a” (how do I get to) is the most powerful phrase when visiting Paris because although every once in a while i’d run into someone who spoke a little English, I learned it’s best to learn enough of the French language to ask for directions, and order some Crepes.

-Please take a look at the photographs from this amazing trip, inside the “PROJECTS” section of my website, and I hope you enjoy them as much!

Cheers!
